Indianapolis Fire Department To Conduct Fourth Smoke Alarm Blitz Of 2017

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Need a smoke alarm? Carbon monoxide detector? Both? Now is the time to ask for Indianapolis Fire Department crew members to help you install them. IFD is conducting the fourth of several planned neighborhood smoke alarm blitzes for 2017 on Thursday, Oct. 29, which will center on the area south of IFD Station 19 (see map), according to a release from the department. From 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Indy American Red Cross volunteers, State Farm and the Marion County Public Health Department will assist IFD firefighters in the door to door mission of speaking with residents and installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors (CO) in homes needing them.

IFD said the smoke alarms were generously donated by State Farm and the CO detectors by First Alert, as IFD's number one priority is to provide community members the tools and education necessary for families to be proactive about fire safety.

IFD's smoke alarm blitz is to comply with the city ordinance passed in April 2014 of having a 10-year sealed smoke alarm in every home.
