Indianapolis Fire Department To Host Open House Event

DETAILS: Public invited to tour the seven selected stations and meet neighborhood Firefighters

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – If you or someone you know - especially children - wonder what it's like inside one of the Indianapolis Fire Department stations, Saturday, Oct, 7 is your chance to find out. IFD will open its doors from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. as part of a city-wide neighborhood open house, where you and your family can attend one of the seven chosen IFD stations, and meet with firefighters other personnel who serve that area. IFD also said there will be several activities planned, including:

  • Hands-only CPR demonstrations
  • Free vitals checks – blood pressure, heart rate fireground tools and equipment displays
  • Apparatus displays
  • Practice 911 calls
  • Family escape plans
  • IFD Public Educators on hand at each station to answer questions about fire and life safety
  • Fall and holiday safety tips
  • Station tours
  • Smoke detector installation sign-up sheet
  • IFD Explorers
  • Juvenile fire setting info – fire investigators on hand to answer your questions
  • Car seat installation information

This open house event is one in a series of planned IFD open houses, the third for 2017 and is part of IFD Chief Ernest Malone’s commitment to engage community members with area firefighters, IFD Battalion Chief, Rita Reith, said.

Reith reports The IFD Service District covers 278 Square miles in Marion County and is serviced by 44 stations divided into 7 Battalions, and in partnership with Firefighters Local 416, the IFD continues its pro-active community service efforts that go beyond emergency response.
