Indianapolis Light and Power Honored for Clean Air Work
Lung Association presents coveted Legacy Award at Evening of Promise Gala

Today, the American Lung Association in Indiana announced that it will honor Indianapolis Power and Light Company (IPL) and its president and CEO Rafael Sanchez with the Legacy Award at their annual Evening of Promise Gala on November 11.
The Lung Association chose to honor IPL for their decision to cease coal combustion at Harding Street and Eagle Valley Generating Stations, resulting in significant emissions reductions and improvement in the air quality of our community. The utility provides retail electric service to more than 490,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers primarily in Indianapolis as well as portions of other Central Indiana communities.
“This award recognizes IPL’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and cleaner air, which are two things key to our mission,” said Tanya Husain, the executive director of the American Lung Association in Indiana. “Under the leadership of Rafael, the company is making a difference in our air and the lives of Indiana residents every day.”

The Legacy Award is presented to an individual or group demonstrating exemplary dedication to lung health and healthier communities for everyone in Indiana. The Legacy Award has been around since the gala started 6 years ago.
The Evening of Promise takes place on Saturday, November 11 at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. The event includes a live and silent auction, live music and dancing. This year, the gala’s theme is “black tie with a touch of team,” which emphasizes the fact that it takes a team to fight lung disease.
