Indianapolis Police Shoot, Kill Man Fleeing Traffic Stop

Police say officers chased the fleeing vehicle early Thursday and, after it crashed into a fence, they shot Aaron Bailey.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis police fatally shot a man after they said he fled a traffic stop.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the man sped away after being pulled over by police about 1:45 a.m. Thursday. Police Sgt. Kendale Adams said officers chased the vehicle and, after it crashed into a fence, shot the man.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as Aaron Bailey, 45.

Police later searched Bailey's vehicle but said they found no weapon, The Indianapolis Star reported.

"Just because you don't find a weapon does not mean that it can't be reasonable" to use force, Adams said. "Obviously, there are a lot of factors that go into that when officers have to make that decision."
