Indy Officials Blame Bad Forecast For Icy Roads

Officials expected the bad weather to stop Tuesday night, according to reports.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Icy roads were the cause of car accidents and school delays in the Indianapolis area Wednesday morning, as cloudy skies keep the temperature below freezing in the area. Town officials cited an inaccurate weather forecast as the reason for the lack of proactive road-treating measures.

The school closures were in Indianapolis, Lawrence, Washington, Warren and Pike, and Westfield and Zionsville in the suburbs.

IndyStar reported that as of 8:25 a.m., there had been at least 20 accidents, and that over 100 schools have two-hour delays. IndyGo warned bus riders of delays as buses also fell victim to the slow traffic and accidents themselves.

Town officials said the reason for the icy roads was an inaccurate weather forecast, IndyStar's Vic Ryckaert reported.

"DPW realized forecast was wrong by 530 or 6. Asked drivers to come in early. Some did but most got in at normal time 7 AM," Ryckaert tweeted.
