Indianapolis veteran Scott Vannatter and his service dog Sadie are being honored in the national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign for their continued service after the military.

A U.S. Army veteran with deployments to Bosnia and Nicaragua, Vannatter and his service dog Sadie now travel across the state speaking on behalf of Hamilton County Humane Society’s Pets Healing Vets program that assists veterans with the often difficult and always costly process of applying for and receiving a service dog.

After the military, Vannatter became involved in the Speedway VFW Post where he saw firsthand how service dogs could benefit veterans and learned about Pets Healing Vets. He applied for a dog and the program provided him Sadie, who has been his constant companion ever since.

Grateful for the drastic improvement Sadie made in his life, Vannatter decided to volunteer with Pets Healing Vets. Now the duo travels throughout Indiana to teach other veterans how service dogs can help with physical and emotional wounds and educate them about the Pets Healing Vets program.
