Jake The Diamond Dog Carries Water To Umps, Wins Ballpark Hearts: Video

FORT WAYNE, IN — Everyone should have a dog like Jake the Diamond Dog. If they did, the world would be a happier place, as Parkview Field was when “the best darn dog in professional baseball” showed up at the Fort Wayne Tin Caps game and fetched a basket of water bottles to the umpires.

Jake the Diamond Dog is helpful like that. He’s not only the MLB’s canine king but is an all-star player as valuable as World Series MVP Ben Zobrist is to the Chicago Cubs. He is “a utility player that does it all,” according to the website maintained by his handlers, Sro Productions of Tulsa.

His “full-game” performance includes everything from delivering the game ball to the pitcher and shagging fouls, taking water and towels to the umps, and fetching bats and catching frisbees. But basically, Jake the Diamond Dog has one job, and that is to barnstorm American ballparks and make people feel good.

He delighted fans and earned head pats from the thirsty umpires Monday in Fort Wayne, where the San Diego Padres’ minor league affiliate team was playing South Bend.
