Local Fertility Doctor Accused Of Using Own Sperm To Change Plea

Indianapolis fertility doctor accused of inseminating patients with his own sperm is expected to plead guilty to lying charges.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — An Indianapolis fertility doctor is expected to plead guilty to charges he lied to investigators after he was accused of inseminating patients with his own sperm, Associated Press reports. 78-year-old Dr. Donald Cline will appear in court in December for a change of plea hearing after he pleaded not guilty last year to two counts of obstruction of justice, AP reports, adding Cline's attorneys said he plans to plead guilty during that hearing.

No other charges have been filed against Cline, who retired in 2009, as Indiana reportedly doesn't specifically prohibit fertility doctors from using their own sperm.

Although Cline initially denied the allegations, a number of children, now adults, of Cline's former patients filed a complaint in 2014 with the Indiana attorney general's office after becoming suspicious that the doctor had inseminated some of his patients with his sperm, AP reports.

According to AP, court records report paternity tests indicate that Cline is likely the biological father of at least two of his patients' children. Those children claim online genetic tests indicate Cline may be the father of 20 others.
