Loogootee will not make history tonight in city mayoral election

In Loogootee, Ind. history will not be made tonight.

This was as voters lined up outside of various voting stations across Martin County and through the city of Loogootee to cast their vote in this year’s 2nd Municipal city election. In Loogootee, the races included the election for City Council and the historic mayoral election to determine the Democratic seat featuring city congresswoman Teressa Nolley and the city’s current mayor Noel Harty.

This would have marked the first time in the Loogootee history that a woman would take charge to become the city’s first-ever female mayor.

To the delight of Harty’s supporters and to the disheartening nature of the Nolley supporters, Harty will fight for a seat in the office he has held for an approaching five terms as the town’s longest-serving mayor. This is as he beat Nolley with 57% of the vote according to WWBL 106.5 FM Radio out of Washington, Ind.

Harty will now face off against Republican front-runner and former town’s mayor, Brian Aider, who has come under fire in recent years after his previous term in office but hopes to claim the seat away from Harty for the first time since he last served as city mayor from 2000-2003.

In the other elections that occurred around Loogootee for the City Council seat, Incumbent Ron Gilbert defeated James Flynn for the Democratic nomination winning by a voting margin of 53%.

In Vincennes, city mayor Joe Yochum was blown out of the city election by Michael Devine for the Democratic nomination with 89% of the vote as for the Republicans Devine will face off against Jack Boger who won by 61%.

For Vincennes City Council District #4 Republican Regina Blinn beat Tyson Conrady for the Republican seat with 90% of the vote.
