Man Dies After Arrest, Welfare Check by Indianapolis Police

Police said man began having breathing problems after arrest.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A man was pronounced dead after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Departmentofficers took him into custody following a welfare check Saturday morning. WRTV reported IMPD officers were called to the 5800 block of Cooper Road at around 11:15 a.m. for a welfare check and upon arrival they found the man in question walking in and out of traffic.

According to the news report, the man became aggressive when officers tried talking to him, eventually taking him into custody.

That's when the man began to have breathing problems, IMPD Lt. Michael Wolley said. WRTV reported an ambulance was called, however the man was pronounced dead when medics were treating him. His identity and reason for arrest have not been released.
