At the Board of Educating meeting on August 23, 2021, the School Board of the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township approved the appointment of Dr. Emily Haas Brown to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education. Dr. Haas Brown transitions to this role from that of Director of Human Resources, a role she has held since 2018. In the spring of 2021, she served as the Interim Principal of Sunnyside Elementary School. Prior to joining the MSD of Lawrence Township, she was the lead administrator and Assistant Principal of the Warren Central High School Freshman Academy. She has served in public education for over 21 years.
 
Haas Brown holds a B.A. in English with a Secondary Certification from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and an M.S. in Educational Administration from Butler University. She holds a Specialist in Education certification in Educational Leadership and Superintendents License from Arkansas State University. Dr. Haas Brown earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Indiana State University in 2019.
 
According to superintendent, Dr. Shawn A. Smith, “Dr. Haas Brown’s background working with students is filled with a track record of success. She will be a great supporter of elementary students, parents, and teachers.”
 
Haas Brown views herself as a relationship-focused leader who empowers teammates to use their specific talents to go above and beyond for students and fellow staff members. She shares:

A native of Arkansas, Dr. Haas Brown has been a resident of Lawrence Township since 2005 and has a son who attends school in the district. She will transition to this new role effective immediately.
