NAPA Reauthorization Act and the Alzheimer's Accountability Act

As a volunteer advocate with the Alzheimer’s Association, I am grateful to use my voice as a way to honor loved ones and help advance our fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. I have been involved with the Alzheimer’s Association since my father-in-law was diagnosed back in 2009 and participating in Indianapolis Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This past April, my mom was diagnosed and has reinforced the importance of working with my Congressman, Andre Carson, on policies that support those living with Alzheimer’s.

Prior to 2011, there was no cohesive strategy to address the growing Alzheimer’s crisis. Thanks to the National Alzheimer’s Project Act, federal research funding has grown and individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers have access to better quality care and support services. It has fundamentally changed the way our country addresses Alzheimer’s and all other dementia, which is why we need to reauthorize this legislation to continue building on the progress we’ve made. The Alzheimer’s Accountability and Investment Act will continue garnering congressional support for Alzheimer’s and dementia research funding. With the original provisions of the Alzheimer’s Accountability Act, which was enacted in 2014, set to expire in 2025, Congress must renew its commitment to ensure that progress continues to be made in Alzheimer’s and dementia research.

It’s time to reauthorize these bills to keep up our momentum in the fight to End Alzheimer’s and All Other Dementia. Please join me in asking Representative Andre Carson to cosponsor and support the NAPA Reauthorization Act and the Alzheimer’s Accountability and Investment Act.

We have made remarkable progress in the fight to end Alzheimer’s in the short time that I have been involved, and none of it would have been possible without the support of Congressional leaders, like my Congressman, Andre Carson.
