No Charges For IMPD Officers In Shooting Death Of Aaron Bailey

Two IMPD officers involved in the June 2017 shooting death of Aaron Bailey will not face criminal charges: Report

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Two Indianapolis police officers will not face criminal charges for the June 2017 shooting death of Aaron Bailey, the unarmed black motorist who crashed his car while escaping a traffic stop, the Associated Press reports. AP says St. Joseph County Prosecutor Kenneth Cotter made the decision after the family of 45-year-old Bailey sued the city last month, claiming the Indianapolis officers, Michal Dinnsen and Carlton Howard used excessive force on Bailey, who the family also claims posed no threat to the pair.

AP reports Dinnsen, who is white, and Howard, who is biracial, reportedly pulled Bailey over for a traffic stop around 1:45 a.m. on June 29 before Bailey suddenly drove away.

According to AP, Bailey crashed into a tree and fence, and that's when the officers went up to the vehicle and fired what the family's lawsuit claims were at least 11 shots.
