No Charges For Indianapolis Firefighter In Johnson County Neighbor Shooting

Prosecutor: Dean Keller, 49, shot Jeffrey Weigle in self-defense after Weigle pulled out hand gun.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - An Indianapolis firefighter who shot his neighbor last month after the man pulled out a gun will not be charged in the shooting, Johnson County Prosecutor Brad Cooper said, as reported by Indy Star.

Dean Keller, 49, claimed self-defense after shooting Jeffrey S. Weigle, 59, several times June 27 when Weigle pulled out a handgun while riding a lawnmower in the 1200 block of Campbell Rd.

Indy Star reports the prosecutor said Weigle was the aggressor, and also said:

'The decision to not file charges on Keller was a simple application of Indiana law and should not be looked upon as condoning the behavior of either party.'

The incident is captured in the video below, which was taken on Keller's property by camera.

The video, courtesy of Johnson County Prosecutor's Office, via Associated Presss, shows Weigle and Keller exchanging insults after Weigle insults Keller's wife. Weigle drives forward before backing up, reaching into his pocket, and pulling out a handgun. That's when Keller fired several bullets at Weigle, who falls over before walking off camera.

A police report claims Weigle was shot four times and suffered a chest wound, Indy Star reports.
