Red Cross, Harlem Globetrotters Partner To Install Smoke Alarms

The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross partner with Harlem Globetrotter Moose Weekes to install free smoke alarms, share fire safety.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Central Indiana American Red Cross staff and volunteers are partnering with Harlem Globetrotter Player Moose Weekes to install free smoke alarms during Martin Luther King Jr. Day, to honor the Civil Rights Movement leader. Weekes and Red Cross team members will surprise Hoosiers by installing smoke alarms and sharing fire safety and preparedness information through the Home Fire Campaign, as the Red Cross Indiana Region says they are aiming to create a more resilient community across Central Indiana and the rest of the state. This comes as the organization says home fire responses and fatalities have significantly increased due to the extreme cold temperatures.

A pep rally kicked off at 9 a.m. this morning at American Red Cross, 1510 North Meridian Street before the group set out to install smoke alarms.

In a release, the organization says it remains their priority to save lives, decrease home fires and provide fire safety education.
