Watch Roncalli Guidance Counselor On 'Ellen' Friday
Ellen invited Roncalli guidance counselor Shelly Fitzgerald after she was asked to resign due to her same-sex marriage.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Shelly Fitzgerald, the Roncalli High School guidance counselor who was recently placed on administrative leave after the school administration learned of her marriage to another woman will appear on "The Ellen Show." According to "ellentube," the show's video website, the "Goddess of Pop" Cher will appear on the show, in addition to Fitzgerald, on Friday, Sept. 7.
According to the website, Ellen invited Fitzgerald on the show to tell her story, after learning her job was at stake nearly a month ago, leading Roncalli students to support the well-liked counselor by speaking out and protesting the administration's decision.
There is a community Facebook page to support Fitzgerald, under the name Time to be a Rebel.

Last month, WRTV reported that in a Facebook post, Fitzgerald wrote she has had to "hide her 22-year relationship" with someone she loves and parents with, adding that "someone sought out" her marriage certificate from Hancock County and turned it into the Catholic school's chief administrator, Joe Hollowell.

Hollowell then reportedly turned it over to the Archbishop of Indianapolis, the school superintendent and Roncalli Principal Chuck Weisenbach.
In the post, Fitzgerald says she met with Hollowell and Weisenbach and was given the options to resign, "dissolve" her marriage, or, "wait it out and stay quiet and maybe I can make it the rest of the year, but they will not renew my contract next year 4," though she has no intention of quitting, divorcing her wife or not telling anyone why she has to leave.
"Ellentube" tells viewers to not miss the "important discussion and interview," as Ellen kicks off her show's 16th season this week, which airs weekdays at 3 p.m. in Indianapolis on WTHR channel 13.
