📰 News we're reading

• Judge refuses to pause defendant's case in Lafayette judge's shooting (jconline.com) — A special judge has refused to delay Thomas Moss's case in the Lafayette judge shooting plot, keeping it on track for an April 5 trial while denying a request for a special prosecutor. Prosecutors want Moss tried alongside co-defendant Blake Smith, and the court is weighing that move as well as possible tweaks to a gag order that limits public comments about the case.

• Lebanon man seriously injured in motorcycle crash west of Romney (jconline.com) — A motorcycle crash on Indiana 28 west of Romney, reported from Lafayette, left a 58-year-old Lebanon man with serious head injuries Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say he lost control in a construction zone after being directed into the eastbound lane, was ejected, and airlifted to Indianapolis. He was initially unconscious but was awake and talking when first responders arrived.

• JUDICIAL REVIEW: Indiana Supreme Court accepts appeal in Deery-Copenhaver primary fight (indianacitizen.org) — West Lafayette Sen. Spencer Deery's razor-thin GOP primary loss to Paula Copenhaver for Senate District 23 is now headed to the Indiana Supreme Court, which will hear arguments Sept. 10. Justices will review whether six absentee ballots discarded by the Recount Commission should count, a decision that could flip the nomination and affect representation for local voters.
