Storm Sends Tree Crashing Onto Trailer and Exposes 70 Dogs Living Inside (ground.news) — A recent storm in Merrillville did more than knock down trees—it exposed more than 70 dogs and several cats crammed inside a single trailer. After a tree crashed onto the home, authorities uncovered suspected neglect and launched an investigation while rescuers rushed to save the animals.

More Than 10,000 Still Without Power In Northwest Indiana (dallasexpress.com) — Merrillville is among several Northwest Indiana communities where some residents are still without power nearly two weeks after devastating storms, prompting a state investigation into NIPSCO's response. While most remaining outages are in Gary, Merrillville households are also waiting in the dark as crews, the National Guard, and volunteers work to restore service and provide relief.
3. Huntsville woman drives donations to storm-ravaged hometown of Gary, Indiana (waff.com) — Residents in Merrillville and nearby Gary are still struggling without power nearly two weeks after severe storms, but help is arriving from as far away as Huntsville, Alabama. A former Gary resident organized a donation drive and personally delivered supplies, with a Merrillville resident publicly thanking Huntsville for stepping up as local families cope with ongoing outages.

DR DIGEST: Georgia, Alabama DR volunteers see gospel impact • Biblical Recorder (brnow.org) — Merrillville is one of the northwest Indiana communities receiving help from Georgia and Alabama Baptist disaster relief teams after severe storms and flooding. Volunteers traveling from the South to Indiana share stories of vehicle troubles, unexpected generosity, and faith conversations as they assist residents with cleanup, emotional support, and rebuilding efforts in hard‑hit neighborhoods.
