2. North Vernon City Council establishes new unpaid 'Parental Leave Policy' (mojo1029.com) — North Vernon city employees will soon have access to a new unpaid parental leave option, after the City Council approved a policy granting up to 10 working days off for qualifying staff. Taking effect October 31, 2026, the ordinance standardizes how all city departments handle time off for new parents, aiming to support families while keeping operations running smoothly.
3. Four arrested in North Vernon narcotics dealing investigation (1010wcsi.com) — Police recently arrested four people at a Stockwell Street home in North Vernon after a two-week narcotics investigation that began with a suspected fentanyl overdose. Officers say they found drug paraphernalia, suspected meth and pills, and contacted Child Services about a dependent in the home. The case highlights ongoing local efforts against fentanyl and meth distribution.
4. Juvenile in custody after fire at park (madisoncourier.com) — A juvenile has been taken into custody after investigators determined a fire at North Vernon City Park on Monday was intentionally set, leading to a felony-level arson charge. North Vernon police, working with Jennings County deputies and fire personnel, used surveillance video to identify the suspect and emphasize that vandalism to city property will be pursued seriously.
