• Redevelopment Commission members ask if viaduct makeovers will help (bluewaterhealthyliving.com) — South Bend officials have approved a $1 million plan to upgrade the Lafayette, Main, and Michigan Street viaducts with new lighting, landscaping, public art, and police-monitored cameras to improve safety and appearance downtown. Commissioners and stakeholders debated whether cosmetic changes alone can address concerns about homelessness and crime, but work could begin as soon as September. The project aims to reshape key gateways and first impressions of downtown South Bend.
