Four pets rescued in house fire on Poland Street in South Bend (wsbt.com) — Firefighters in South Bend rescued three dogs and a cat from a house fire on Poland Street Sunday evening, bringing the blaze under control in about 10 minutes. No residents were home when flames spread from the exterior into the house, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.

(wsbt.com) — If you're looking to adopt a dog in South Bend, Storm is a calm, affectionate young pup now available through the South Bend Animal Resource Center. She's spayed, vaccinated, loves other dogs and snuggles, but needs a secure fenced yard because she's an escape artist. Interested residents can apply to adopt her directly from the shelter.
3. Notre Dame's Defensive line ready to make noise after high impact fall camp (wsbt.com) — Notre Dame's defensive line is emerging as a clear strength in South Bend as the Irish wrap up fall camp and gear up for a high-stakes opener in Green Bay. New line coach Charlie Partridge, bringing NFL and decades of college experience to town, has blended veteran transfers with returning talent to build a deep, disruptive rotation up front.
4. Pokagons honor respect for Native heritage with Ally Awards (wsjm.com) — South Bend's Saint Joseph High School is among several institutions honored by the Pokagon Band for retiring Native-themed mascots and imagery, part of a broader push for accurate Native representation in northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. The school officially changed its nickname from the Indians to the Huskies in 2024 after consultation with tribal leaders and the community.
