• Suspect in 20-year-old cold case dead (wsbt.com) — South Bend police say 56-year-old Lucio Lerma Sr., recently charged in his wife Delia's 2007 stabbing death, was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a home on South Bend's S. Bendix Drive. With no early signs of foul play, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office is now moving to dismiss the cold-case murder charges tied to her killing.
• Notre Dame researchers reimagine memory care with social robots (nd.edu) — Notre Dame researchers are testing friendly social robots at the Milton Home in South Bend to help residents with dementia through personalized reminiscence conversations. The project, part of the university's Human-Centered Analytics Lab, aims to support professional caregivers while exploring how AI can strengthen human connection and improve memory care, with results also showcased at Notre Dame's Shamrock Series events.
• Army veteran Adalpe still going strong, on honor flight, court ∣ The 9 (southbendtribune.com) — Army veteran and longtime South Bend resident Paul Aldape, 88, is preparing for an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. while still staying active on the pickleball court. His life story spans humble beginnings, Army service in Germany, a move to South Bend for work, and a retirement inspired by Johnny Cash.
