1. Gensler Selected to Design Colfax Corner Redevelopment in Downtown South Bend (schoolconstructionnews.com) — A major redevelopment is planned for downtown South Bend as Gensler leads the Colfax Corner project, reusing the former South Bend Tribune building and adding a new five-story research and office facility. The 202,000-square-foot complex will anchor the city's emerging Tech & Talent District, with Notre Dame programs and private companies sharing space, plus new courtyard, café, and retail areas to activate the block.
2. Judge dismisses South Bend Chocolate lawsuit over airport concession contract (theindianalawyer.com) — A recent court ruling cleared the way for South Bend International Airport to move forward with new concession plans, ending South Bend Chocolate Company's legal challenge. The judge found the airport acted within its legal authority, meaning a new operator will soon open several fresh dining and bar options for travelers. Locals can expect three new post-security concession areas to open within 30 days.
3. Service Advisory: Notre Dame Football (mysouthshoreline.com) — If you're heading from South Bend to Notre Dame's 2026 home football games, the South Shore Line is adding free shuttle buses between South Bend International Airport and Notre Dame Stadium. Trains will arrive before both afternoon and evening kickoffs, with shuttles dropping fans near the IU School of Medicine building on campus. After games, return shuttles and trains are timed to get you back efficiently.
4. South Bend announced federal grant funding to relocate Amtrak to historic Union Station (abc57.com) — South Bend is moving closer to bringing Amtrak service back downtown, thanks to a $3.848 million federal planning grant to redevelop historic Union Station. City leaders say the funding will cover key engineering and design work needed to connect the preserved 1929 building to the tracks and meet accessibility requirements. Actual passenger service at Union Station is still several years away, pending future implementation grants.
5. Bikers fundraise for local children's hospital in 'Rabbott's Rosie Ride' Saturday (abc57.com) — Bikers in South Bend are gearing up for Saturday's "Rabbott's Rosie Ride," raising money for A Rosie Place for Children, a respite hospital serving medically fragile kids from all 92 Indiana counties. Riders' registration fees and T-shirt purchases go directly toward free overnight stays for children and much-needed breaks for caregivers. Same-day registration opens at 9:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 11.
