2. Fire sparks questions about safety at Lafayette Falls neighborhood (wsbt.com) — Lafayette Falls neighbors in South Bend are pressing city leaders for faster emergency response and safer access to their subdivision after a recent house fire tested the neighborhood's single entrance. With council members threatening to oppose the city budget without traffic fixes and clearer mutual-aid plans, the city has ordered a traffic study that could shape future road and safety improvements.
3. The Meow Mission works to reduce population of free-roaming cats (abc57.com) — South Bend residents are teaming up with The Meow Mission to trap, neuter, vaccinate, and return free-roaming cats, including a recent rescue of 23 cats from a local neighborhood. The nonprofit has helped 15,000 cats over 15 years and is hosting a free fundraiser at M.R. Falcons to support its heavily booked services.

IURC formally investigating NIPSCO's restoration practices following Aug. 11 storm (abc57.com) — South Bend residents who lost power in August's derecho may see answers soon, as state regulators have formally opened an investigation into NIPSCO's storm preparation and restoration practices. Prompted by a consumer watchdog petition and the governor's call, the probe will examine infrastructure, communication, and reliability after some northern Indiana customers endured outages lasting up to two weeks.
