Mayor James Mueller announces guidelines for potential future hyperscale data centers in the City of South Bend (abc57.com) — South Bend residents now have a first look at Mayor James Mueller's proposed rules for any future large-scale data centers, including no tax abatements, full utility cost coverage, and strong labor standards. Through Oct. 31, you can review the draft "Neighborhoods-First Framework for Data Centers" online and submit feedback or call 311 to share your thoughts.
2. 4 Michiana-area schools honored as 2026 Indiana Blue Ribbon Schools. Here are the schools that made the list (wndu.com) — South Bend families can celebrate that South Bend Hebrew Day School has been named a 2026 Indiana Blue Ribbon School, one of just 16 honored statewide. The recognition, announced by Gov. Mike Braun, highlights strong student achievement and community support, with three other Michiana schools also making the list for exemplary performance.
3. Cheapest gas stations in South Bend (pdclarion.com) — Drivers in South Bend can compare today's cheapest gas options, with several stations in South Bend and nearby Mishawaka clustered around $3.59 per gallon and one Costco in Granger slightly lower. The list, compiled from GasBuddy data, ranks stations by regular fuel price so you can decide whether it's worth a short drive to save a few cents.
4. Indiana's top CASA says he's changed kids' lives but he's gained much more (wvpe.org) — A South Bend resident, Tom Brown, has been honored as Indiana's CASA of the year for his 12 years of advocating for abused and neglected children.
