1. Purdue Employee Activity Program opens registration for Nov. 21 Chicago bus trip (purdue.edu) — Purdue employees, students, retirees, and their families can reserve a $50 round-trip bus ride from West Lafayette to Chicago on Nov. 21 for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, with boarding at 2550 Northwestern Ave. Registration and payment are due by 3 p.m. Oct. 21, giving locals a convenient way to enjoy holiday shopping and downtown festivities without driving.
2. 28th Honor Flight touches down at Purdue after a tearful day in D.C. (jconline.com) — Hundreds of Greater Lafayette residents gathered at Purdue Airport in West Lafayette to welcome home 84 veterans returning from a day of visiting Washington, D.C. memorials. The Honor Flight included local guardians, emotional mail-call letters, and a rousing homecoming tunnel, giving area families a powerful way to recognize veterans' service and sacrifices.
3. Purdue exhibit highlights Idlewild's role in Black history (jconline.com) — A new free exhibit on Purdue's West Lafayette campus is open through Sept. 30, inviting Greater Lafayette residents to explore the Black resort community of Idlewild, Michigan, and its role in African American history. Curated from decades of research by Purdue professor Ronald J. Stephens, the display uses archival photos and documents to show how Idlewild fostered Black land ownership, culture, and community during segregation and beyond.
4. We Ranked The Best Burger Joints In Indiana And These Spots Came Out On Top (travelmag.com) — One of Indiana's standout burger spots is right in West Lafayette at Triple XXX Family Restaurant, home of the peanut-butter-topped Duane Purvis All-American and other Purdue-themed burgers. The statewide roundup also highlights classic joints from Fort Wayne to Evansville, but locals can sample a featured favorite just off campus at 2 N. Salisbury Street.
5. Purdue women's basketball unveils 2026-27 Big Ten schedule (jconline.com) — Purdue women's basketball has finalized its 2026-27 Big Ten schedule, bringing marquee home games to West Lafayette, including UCLA on Jan. 5, USC on Jan. 24, and rival Indiana on Feb. 17 at Mackey Arena. With only four returners and 10 newcomers from eight countries, the Boilermakers enter Katie Geralds' sixth season looking to improve on last year's 13-17 record.
