📰 News we're reading

1. After Losing Their Child, Westfield Parents Fight for Safer Roads (wibc.com) — Westfield parents Chris and Rachel Stidham are urging the city to lower the speed limit on Tomlinson Road after their 7-year-old son Graham was killed crossing 196th Street and Tomlinson near Monon Trail Elementary. City council members have delayed a vote on reducing speeds but are reviewing data and considering added safety measures like a new crosswalk and trail connections. The family hopes changes will prevent future tragedies for other Westfield children.

2. Westfield High School students earn national honors (youarecurrent.com) — Westfield High School's Foodies Rock FCCLA team brought home multiple national medals after competing at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. Students excelled in areas from hospitality and tourism to fashion design and public policy, and even met U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz to advocate for career and technical education, spotlighting WHS's strong culinary and leadership programs.

3. Fishers police: Student, 13, charged after bringing fake gun to school (indystar.com) — A 13-year-old student at Fishers Junior High was arrested after a school resource officer found a fake gun in the student's backpack, leading to a Class B misdemeanor charge for possessing an imitation firearm on school property. The case, in a neighboring Hamilton County community, comes as Westfield parents of a boy killed in a crash are also calling school-area safety a life-or-death issue. Authorities have not said who initially alerted staff to the possible weapon.

4. WATCH: Bryson DeChambeau Makes First Public Appearance With Girlfriend Mikayla Demaiter (fadeawayworld.net) — Westfield briefly took the sports-gossip spotlight when Bryson DeChambeau and Mikayla Demaiter were filmed walking together at LIV Golf Indianapolis at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield. Their appearance fueled ongoing speculation about a relationship, drawing national attention to the local course while highlighting DeChambeau's growing off-course celebrity and Demaiter's sizable online following.

5. LIV Golf ends employment for many staff members as Saudi funding concludes (wishtv.com) — LIV Golf, which just wrapped its Indianapolis event in Westfield, is laying off many employees as Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund ends its financial backing. League leaders are seeking new investors, considering a smaller 10-event schedule, and even weighing bankruptcy, leaving the future of stars like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau—and any return of LIV events to Westfield—uncertain.
