📰 News we're reading

• Westfield schools drafting shared-custody bus exception (youarecurrent.com) — Westfield Washington Schools is preparing a new exception that would again let shared-custody families use more than one bus stop, after backlash to this year's one-stop rule. District leaders say the change will be limited, predictable, and tied to court-ordered custody, while a Westfield parent is independently gathering data on how many families rely on multiple stops, including for daycare and grandparents.

• Westfield council OKs 30 mph for Tomlinson Road (youarecurrent.com) — Westfield City Council has voted 6-1 to drop Tomlinson Road's speed limit from 40 to 30 mph after a crash there killed a 7-year-old boy. The decision follows months of emotional advocacy from Westfield parents and neighbors, who argued safety near schools and growing neighborhoods should outweigh traffic convenience and engineering recommendations for a higher limit.

• Marilyn Dearmon, 95, Noblesville (wuzr.com) — Westfield is home to some of the children and grandchildren mourning Marilyn Jane Myers Dearmin, a longtime Indiana banker and community volunteer who died at 95. Her life spanned Washington, Odon, and Noblesville, where she was active in church, theater costuming, and local banking, with a memorial service planned at Noblesville First United Methodist Church in November.
