• Boone County Legislators Praise IREAD Scores Increasing for Fifth Consecutive Year (clintoncountydailynews.com) — Zionsville Community Schools posted a strong 96% pass rate on this year's IREAD exam, as Boone County lawmakers celebrate Indiana's fifth straight year of rising third-grade reading scores. Local Reps. Becky Cash and Hunter Smith credit new literacy standards, extra support for struggling schools, and increased state K‑12 funding, while emphasizing that work to boost reading achievement will continue.
• Local school leaders weigh state voucher costs (youarecurrent.com) — Zionsville Community Schools had 166 students using state vouchers in 2024–25, a relatively small but important slice of Indiana's $500 million school choice program. Local superintendents and a voucher advocate debate whether expanding vouchers strains public school budgets or simply lets funding follow students, raising big questions about how the state will balance choice and traditional schools.
• MIRROR INDY: Ongoing efforts to protect waterways from pollutants and data centers (indianacitizen.org) — Zionsville's own Rep. Becky Cash is helping lead a bipartisan push to set Indiana limits on PFAS "forever chemicals" in drinking water, even after her bill stalled this year. As experts meet in Indianapolis to tackle flooding, data center water use, PFAS, and microplastics, Cash plans to reintroduce legislation that could shape how utilities and polluters handle these contaminants statewide.
