Around 9 p.m., WTHR says people were trying to catch a dog who was seen running near 56th Street and Northfield Drive, where he was hit by a car.
Police learned the dog that had been hit was K-9 Darro, who died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.
WTHR reports officers say the driver was not at fault, and they're investigating how Darro got out of his secured enclosure.
