Indiana Lawmakers Advance Bill That Would Ban Eyeball Tattooing

Indiana House panel votes in favor of a bill that would ban eyeball tattooing after Senate approved the measure last month: Report

ACROSS INDIANA — Planning on getting your eyeball tattooed? That might be difficult to do in Indiana in the near future. AP News reports an Indiana House panel has approved a proposal that would ban the practice of eyeball tattooing. The news outlet adds that the bill by Republican Sen. John Ruckelshaus of Indianapolis was approved on a 10-0 vote Monday by the House Public Health committee.

The legislation would prohibit tattooists from coloring the whites of an individual’s eyes. However, AP News adds that an exception would be made for those done by licensed health care professionals.

So how did such a measure come about? It was presented after several news reports came out in the fall about a Canadian model who had major complications from getting her eyes tattooed purple.
