ZIONSVILLE, IN -- The National Council for Home Safety and Security rank Zionsville as the safest community in Indiana. The council's "Safest Cities In Indiana 2018" list also ranks two other Indiana Patches - Carmel and Fishers - in the top five. According to the publication, Zionsville reported only 31 violent crimes and 108 property crimes out of 26,877 people. The statistics are based on per 1,000 people in the town. To put this into perspective, the council lists Indianapolis in last place at number 58, with 11,907 violent crimes and 41,540 property crimes for 866, 351 people.The National Council for Home Safety and Security reviewed the most recent <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/crime-in-the-u.s.-2016/tables/table-6/table-6.xls/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics </a>along with their own population data and internal research to determine the safest cities in Indiana. The council reports they <a href="https://www.alarms.org/safest-cities-in-indiana-2018/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">eliminated any cities</a> that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and removed cities with populations under 10,000, ranking the remaining cities based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people.
