Plant Sale Extravaganza is Mother’s Day weekend at Reiman Gardens in Ames

The Plant Sale Extravaganza sponsored by the Graduate Student Horticulture Society, the ISU Horticulture Club, Reiman Gardens, and the Story County Master Gardener Association will be held in Reiman Gardens’ parking lot rain or shine on Mother’s Day weekend, 2015. As a member perk, Reiman Gardens’ members can purchase plants before the public on Friday, May 8th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The sale will open to the public on Saturday, May 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Many local organizations have come together to offer a huge selection of plants. Organizations include the Graduate Student Horticulture Society, the ISU Horticulture Club, Reiman Gardens, and the Story County Master Gardener Association. All plant purchases directly benefit each group’s programming.

Plants for sale include: trees including ash replacements, shrubs, roses including Buck roses, popular tropicals, specialty annuals featured at Reiman Gardens this year, herbaceous perennials for sun and shade including named hostas, daylilies and peonies, woodland plants, and ground covers, annual herbs, veggies, rhubarb, heirloom tomatoes, mixed hanging baskets of annuals, and Buck geraniums.

Typically Mother’s Day weekend is the first frost free weekend in central Iowa for planting, so bring mom and stock up on gems for your home garden.

While shopping, snack on free popcorn and ice water, and make a stop at the information booth to get your questions answered by a plant expert. Credit card, check, and cash will all be accepted as payment.
