5 Things You Need To Know Going Back To School

begin Aug. 18 unless it's your first day of school ever. Kindergartners go back Aug. 22, but they may participate in a Kindergarten Glimpse Aug. 18 or Aug. 19.

New Ames School elementary families and kindergartners are invited to the New Family and Kindergarten Orientation that takes place at each of the district's elementary schools from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 11.

Ames Middle School Open House and picture day is from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 11, and 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 12. Students can pick up schedules, gather food and bus information and explore many clubs and extracurricular activities at the school.

First-through fifth-graders and their families can meet their teachers from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 17. find their cubbies and drop off school supplies.

All Ames Community School District elementary schools will dismiss at 1:45 p.m. during the first week of school.
