Ames Firefighters Responds To Duplex Fire
Two families have been displaced by the fire. There were no injuries at this incident.

Ames firefighters responded this afternoon to a duplex fire at 413 East 13th St. At approximately 12:39 p.m., crews arrived on scene and found heavy smoke inside the structure.

Firefighters located the fire in the kitchen area and quickly extinguished the blaze. There was extensive fire and smoke damage in one unit of the duplex, and smoke damage in the adjoining unit. The preliminary estimate of damage is approximately $75,000.
Two families have been displaced by the fire. There were no injuries at this incident. However, firefighters attempted to resuscitate two dogs using specialized animal rescue equipment, but both dogs perished.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, and the cause is currently under investigation. Smoke detectors were present and working.
The Ames Fire Department reminds all residents to check smoke detectors monthly. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire. Also, please keep cooking areas free of combustible material.
