Ames High Gets Win Over Ottumwa
The Ames High football team beat Ottumwa 28-14 in front of a home crowd Friday night.
Ames improved to 2-1 Friday night by defeating Ottumwa 28-14 at home.
Both teams struggled to find their groove offensively in the first half; each only scored once. Ames quarterback Sam Straub left the game in the first quarter with a right hand injury and was replaced by Alex Brammer and Adam Maher, who struggled to capitalized. With 24 seconds left in the first half, Adam Maher ran 68 yards for a touchdown to put Ames on top going into the half, 7-6.
Ottumwa struck first in the second half. Late in the third quarter, they broke through the Little Cyclones defense with a one yard touchdown run. Ames controlled the rest of the game, closing it out with touchdown runs by Mayberry, Breitling and Maher.

Ames next plays away at Des Moines East on Sept. 9. Their next home game is on Sept. 23 against Fort Dodge.
