Ames High Hockey Coach Chris Schmale Says Goodbye

Hockey Blogger Chris Schmale said a recent Ames Little Cyclone Hockey awards banquet, his last night as head coach, was the end of something special.

Schmale announced in February that he would step down as head coach of the team but said his goodbyes Sunday during an awards banquet.

During his tenure the team made it to the state tournament, dealt with the loss of family members and scored wins in double digits, Schmale wrote in a blog after the ceremony.

“I learned more from you than you could have ever learned from me and I will cherish it forever. I did not tender my resignation because I don't want to coach. It is what I love to do I have done it for 13 years, and it is in my blood, but sometimes you have to do what is right in stead of doing what you want.”
