Ames' Outdoor Neighborhood Sculpture Program Applications Due By Dec. 13

The City of Ames Public Art Commission encourages Ames residents to apply to have one of the current Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition works of art installed in their neighborhood. The artwork must be installed in a public area that is open and can be accessed by Ames citizens, such as a neighborhood park, entrance area, or cul-de-sac. There is no cost to the neighborhood.

The Ames Public Art Commission is committed to creating a visual and aesthetic environment that incorporates art into the lives of all Ames citizens. One way that the Commission does this is through the Neighborhood Sculpture Program. Annually, the Neighborhood Sculpture Committee selects one or two pieces of art currently on display in the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in the Ames Main Street Cultural District to install permanently in neighborhoods. These sculptures may be viewed on the City’s website. Additionally, a brochure and map of the current sculpture exhibition can be picked up at City Hall.

Safety considerations for both drivers and pedestrians will be a deciding factor in placement of the piece. If your neighborhood is interested in acquiring one of these sculptures, applications are available online at www.cityofames.org/pac and must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 13, 2019.

Selected neighborhoods will be notified in early spring 2020 pending City Council approval.\
