Democrats Win AND Lose VP Debate (to Crazy Uncle Joe)
Joe Biden's performance was cathartic for Democrats but it came with a cost.
Think back to an experience in which you were mistreated during a conversation with another person...maybe a salesperson or a relative. You walked (or drove) away from the experience steeped in anger. You regret not giving that person a "piece of your mind."
"It wouldn't have changed anything, but it made me feel better," you thought.
That sums up the vice-presidential debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan.
Democrats were down after a poor debate performance by President Obama. They really wanted Joe Biden to let Ryan "have it!"
He did. And my Democratic friends celebrated within my social networks.
So that was a big win for Democrats who wanted to see their candidate express contempt for the opposition.
But there was a long-term loss for that short-term pleasure.
The "crazy uncle Joe" routine won't play well with independent voters and it will be the lasting image from the debate.
Also, I think we'll be learning much more about the Benghazi attack as we head toward election day. I think Biden's willingness to throw the intelligence community under the bus will come back to bite this administration.
