Getting Comfortable With Romney

Conservative voters are getting comfortable with the idea of Mitt Romney as their nominee.

Conservative GOP voters have gone through an "Anybody But Romney" phase. That prompted Rick Perry to jump into the race. But he's struggled as the front-runner. Now the chatter is about Chris Christie. Or Sarah Palin. But both are NOT expected to run.

I believe that the conservative base of the Republican party is getting comfortable with Romney as the nominee. Republicans have seen how the Democrats are going to approach this next election. With President Barack Obama's approval rating low, they'll seek to cast the Republican opponent as crazy, stupid, and backward-looking.

Conservative activists are beginning to realize that Romney is tough to attack in this manner. He doesn't have "everyday guy" appeal, but he's got message discipline and that may be what it takes to win.

Romney leads in a new poll of Iowans and the primary calendar favors him.

For Republican voters who remain "Anybody But Romney" activists, the "go to" guy has become Herman Cain.
