Romney Is Doomed...Except Among Voters
If being a challenger in a dead-heat race is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
I'm paraphrasing the headline from this post detailing today's polling, in which Mitt Romney and Barack Obama basically remain tied in the swing states that will decide this election.
You might even say, unexpectedly!
Another way of phrasing this development would be to report that the President's convention bounce has evaporated. But the media and sadly, some Republicans, have been telling us about the inept campaign of Mitt Romney...so they are forced to stick with this narrative by reporting that Romney is apparently competitive despite himself.
Some Republicans are decrying the Romney campaign because he's not winning overwhelming at this point. Any political professional knows that beating an incumbent is tough sledding...even in a bad economy. I wonder what the doomsayers would have been writing at this point during the Carter/Reagan race.
One-fifth of voters say the debates could swing their vote in a race in a dead-heat. I still expect a Romney win...and sad-faced commentators telling us the day after the election that, despite weekly proclamations of apocalypse for Romney, it really WAS about the economy, after all.
