Romney Remains On Message

The "message discipline" displayed by Mitt Romney during the primary continues in the general election campaign.

I've blogged previously about the tremendous message discipline displayed by the Romney campaign.  The next election will be about the economy.  Romney defeated his various primary challengers because he allowed his challengers to be drawn "off message" while he remained focused.

The value of the Romney approach during the general election campaign is on display today.

A day after President Obama expressed his support for gay marriage, his campaign plants a well-timed story in the Washington Post that alleges that Romney pranked (re:  bullied) a closeted gay student in high school.

Now Romney and his surrogates can rage over the allegations or the fact that the media refuses to talk about the economy.  Such reactions (as displayed during the primary by Newt Gingrich) prolong the story.

Instead, his campaign quickly arranged a phone interview in which he apologized.

Boom.  End of story.  Romney goes back to talking about the economy.

While I respect the talent working for the Obama campaign, the Romney folks are equal to the task.
