September 11 – A National Day of Service & Remembrance
Pay tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11 through volunteerism.
This Sunday marks the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Most people will always remember where they were when they heard about the attacks.
I agree with a segment I heard on the radio where the d.j. speculated that Americans will react to the anniversary in many different ways – with tears, displaying patriotism, or only wanting to move forward when it’s too painful to look back.
We haven’t forgotten how people reached out and supported one another in the aftermath of the attacks. This community support lives on as we pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, heroes and their families by acknowledging Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service & Remembrance.

According to 911day.org : “The 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance initiative has a very simple goal: To encourage individuals and organizations on the anniversary of 9/11 to voluntarily spend time helping and being kind to others in tribute of the 9/11 victims and heroes.”
Even though we are more than 1,000 miles away from the site of the attacks, we can still use Sept. 11th as a day to slow down from our busy lives and take a good look around our community. We can see the positive aspects of our community, like the fact that we unify in times of crisis. And as we unify and work together to move forward, we can tackle the needs of our community together.
