The Iowa State Fair started this past Thursday, and if you have not been there you should go. It is one of those things you should experience at least once. Personally I go at least once every year. It takes more than one day to see it all, but go!
From the Butter Cow, to the largest bull, and any food on a stick it is a fun way to see things you do not normally see. Belgium and Clydesdales 3, 6 and 10 teams horses all dressed out and pulling fancy wagons. To the Kiddie Cattle capers there is always something to see. There is a new twist to my favorite, the corndog; there is a stand that has double bacon corndogs, I had one wasn’t impressed since I tasted very little bacon. But we did enjoy the salted nut rolls dipped in chocolate and served……on a stick! Fresh lemonade and smoked turkey legs make for a gut wrenching-ly wonderful day! Those who are calorie conscious, all the walking sure helps burn those pesky calories.
In the culture center you can see works of art from all over our great state, some old favorites to some amazing young artists shows creativity is alive and well in Iowa.

So even if you go every year, or have never gone go down to the fair grounds on the east side of Des Moines and enjoy a piece of history right here in our back yard!
Oh and in the evening get a beer find a bench and people watch, such a great time!
