United Way of Story County Announces New Board Members
United Way of Story County recently added three new board members.

Scott Bleich, Mark Cahill, and Ottie Maxey have joined the United Way of Story County (UWSC) Board of Directors. The three new members are joining 20 other volunteers and will serve for three-year terms.
“United Way of Story County is very excited to welcome our new board members,” said Jean Kresse, UWSC president & CEO. “We’re looking forward to putting their talents to good use as we continue to improve lives in our community.”
Bleich is co-owner of Heartland Finishes, Inc., a commercial subcontractor out of Des Moines. He serves as president of the Des Moines Construction Breakfast Club and is active with Master Builders of Iowa, the American Society of Professional Estimators, and his church. Bleich has helped developed a scholarship program for high school students interested in construction, and his company sponsors an annual scholarship for construction engineering students at Iowa State University. Bleich and his wife, Angie, live in Ames with daughters, Sophia and Alexis, and son, Logan.
Cahill has served as a financial advisor for Edward Jones Investments in the Nevada office for 16 years. He and his wife, Elizabeth, a 5th-6th grade multi-age teacher in the Nevada school district, have three children, Jack, 12-years-old, Grace, 10-years-old, and Bridget, eight-years-old. Cahill has served on the UWSC Nevada campaign cabinet for the past eight years.
Maxey is in his first year as superintendent of the Ballard school district. Prior to his current position, he was Postville’s superintendent for three years. He has also taught Social Studies and coached in West Des Moines and Cedar Rapids and served as associate principal at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School. Maxey grew up in Cedar Rapids, has bachelors’ degrees from Coe College and the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), and a master’s degree from Drake University. He is currently enrolled in the Doctoral Program at UNI. Maxey and his wife, Melissa, a teacher, live in Huxley with sons, Hersch, a seventh grader, and Willie, a fourth grader.
