What Angers The Middle Class
There's a reason that politicians are vague about what's vexing the middle class.
This post is mainly about building voter resentment over the expensive vacations being taken by the Obamas. But I found a much more interesting point when blue-collar Democratic voters vented their frustration to Republican pollsters over the economy:
McLaughlin handled blue collar and Catholic voters in Pittsburgh on April 3 and Cleveland on March 20. He found that they are very depressed about the economy and feel that their tax dollars are being sucked up by both the rich and those living on government assistance.
We've heard that government is out-of-touch with working class voters and that our legislators don't represent our priorities. But I've never seen the frustrations of working class people expressed so simply and clearly.
Voters, stressed by the economy, feel their tax dollars are being wasted. Either money is being handed out to people who refuse to work or their money is being given to rich folks who don't need it.
Politicians often say that they empathize with the working class...but have you ever heard them specifically articulate the frustrations of the middle class?
If you say that government money goes to people who don't deserve it (on both ends of the income spectrum), you are either accused of suffering from a lack of compassion or you are anti-business.
