What We Learned From Iowa

Lessons learned during the Iowa caucus process.

Some people labeled "kingmakers" or "influential" by the national media are actually political opportunists. They exploit the sincere Christian faith of Iowans in order to acquire power and money.

People are just beginning to learn of the brilliance of the Mitt Romney campaign. His advisers know that Iowa doesn't always pick the nominee, but it does cull the field. So while lowering expectations in the state, they utilized the process to mortally wound the campaigns of candidates who may have presented a strong challenge to Romney nationally. Then Mitt rode into Iowa on a white horse.

Even if GOP leaders are quick to dismiss the candidacy of Ron Paul, they need to understand why his message inspired such passion, especially among young voters. A charismatic candidate that combines Paul's domestic libertarianism with a strong foreign policy approach will be a contender in the future.

Rick Santorum proved that retail politics in Iowa can propel a candidate to the top-tier in the state and force the media to give a candidate a serious look.

The "Iowa-shouldn't-go-first" crowd only confirms that snobby elitism exists in both parties. There's no state that can duplicate the enthusiasm shown by Iowans at their local caucus.
