Broken Cable Cut Power to North ISU Campus

Power was restored overnight but ISU's Power Plant is working to repair the line today.

A cable failed between Power Plant and a substation north of the Genetics Laboratory about 9 p.m. Monday, cutting power to more than a dozen campus buildings.

Power Plant Supervisor Jeffrey Witt said it took crews a while to find the failure, but once discovered power was rerouted and restored by 2 a.m.

Witt said the broken cable should be repaired by Wednesday. The university's power plant supplies power to the main campus, and Frederickson Court. services the Towers, Jack Trice Stadium, Buchanan Hall and family student housing complexes of University Village and Schilletter Village.

Members of the University community sent messages out about the power outage Monday night. One person said that researchers could buy dry ice at West Hy-Vee to save their research projects.
