Cheap Flights from Ames: Southwest Set to Fly from Des Moines

Seeing how it’s never too early to start planning for holiday travel, here’s a reminder that Southwest Airlines will begin flying out of Des Moines beginning Sept. 30.

Want to get from Ames to Chicago? Southwest has flights beginning at $92 one way. Flights land at Midway Airport.

Des Moines Airport Executive Director Don Smithey recently told The Des Moines Register that other airlines have already begun dropping prices in anticipation of the new competition. He told the paper he’s seen flights to Denver, where Southwest flies, for as low as $177, and rates to Chicago, which have been as much as $850, have dropped, too.
