Ames Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to join Mayor John Haila, Ames City Council, and Ames Parks and Recreation Commission members at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovation of the fishing pier at Ada Hayden Heritage Park. The event will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the pier on the north side of the lake at 5205 Grand Ave.

The pier renovation project addressed the heaving and undulations that occurred on the deck and included removing the decking material, railings, and six pilings from the lake side of the pier; leveling the existing pilings; adding rip rap around each piling to prevent ice formation during winter months; and replacing the decking and railings. Lastly, new concrete walkways were added to connect to the existing path.

“The fishing pier at Ada Hayden Heritage Park is a valuable amenity to our park system and the community. The pier was designed with sections of lower railings, which provide users with mobility devices access to the water,” said Ames Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham. “These renovations will ensure a safe and accessible pier for all park users to continue to enjoy.”
